



In this article we will see about the festivals celebrated in India during the months of June to August.
Rath Yatra:
One of the most fantastic festivals in India held at Puri in Orissa state at the temple of Lord Jagannath. Lord Jagannath along with his brother Balram and sister Subadhra are taken out in a procession to a temple some 2 kilometers away to celebrate Lord Krishna's journey from Gokul to Mathura where he slayed the demon king Kamsa. The three mammoth chariots of 45 feet, 35 feet, and 7-feet respectively are dragged by a 5000 odd men with pomp and splendor down this path. Similar processions held elsewhere in the country, but with lesser grandiose.
Ramzan:
Muslims throng the mosques to pray and rejoice and feast to end a month long fast.
Teej:
This festival is celebrated at Jaipur in Rajasthan. The reunion of Goddess Parvathi with Lord Shiva is celebrated with great splendor. Decorated elephants lead the processions. Young girls fast and dance to seek blessings of Goddess Parvathi for a happy married life.
Independence Day (August 15):
The day in which India attained independence from the colonial rule in 1947. This day is celebrated through out the country with flag hoistings and cultural programmes which reflect the patriotic struggle.
Nag Panchami:
In Rajasthan at Jodhpur this festival is celebrated. The whole city wears a festive look on this day. Huge serpent dummies are prepared and prayers offered to Lord Adisesha the divine throusand head serpent.
